From the Penninger Inn (Hernsteinerstraße 1), turn onto Lindabrunnerstraße toward Lindabrunn and Enzesfeld, and follow the road for 500 m, staying on the blue trail markers until you reach the “Hinteraigen” chapel. Continue on the state road (sign: Gr. Jauling, St. Veit, blue), walk along the roadside for 600 m toward the edge of the forest, then follow the edge of the forest until, after another 200 m, the trail branches off to the left into the forest (blue markings). This path leads slightly downhill, past the “St. Veiter Blinden Kreuz,” narrowing as it goes until it reaches a forest road. Cross this road and follow the forest path (blue) downhill to the junction with the “Lindabrunner Blinden Kreuz.” Several forest trails and roads converge here; keep slightly to the left and take the forest road marked in blue. This road now leads slightly downhill along the eastern slope of the Größenberg, passing a spring on the right side of the trail and a hunting blind. Stay on this forest road (blue) and hike above the golf course, partly downhill, heading north. The forest road eventually joins a forest path crossing it; follow this path to the left and uphill (sign: Gr. Jauling, blue) to a small gravel pit. At the right edge of this pit, a narrow path begins, initially climbing steeply, then leading straight uphill through a sunken path. After 200 m, the trail to Gr. Jauling, marked in blue, branches off to the right; from here, follow the yellow markings straight ahead toward Saurerkreuz and on to Kleinfeld. After just 100 m, you’ll reach the saddle with the “Saurerkreuz” (rest area). Follow a forest road running through a ditch downhill toward Kleinfeld, marked in yellow. Ignore the turnoff for “Zur Waldhütte Guglzipf” and continue out of the valley, crossing a forest road; from here, follow the hiking trail (yellow), which is flat at first but then descends more steeply toward Kleinfeld (signs: “MTB Route Guglzipf”). Once you reach the village, turn right briefly on the road (20 m) and then immediately left toward the church (yellow). You’ll now pass through the village of Kleinfeld, past the wine tavern Kaiser and then past the Gasthaus Zodl on the left (yellow and MTB Guglzipf). Staying on the road, leave the village and hike 600 m to the edge of the forest. Shortly after a rest area, the green trail marker leads right toward Berndorf, the yellow one continues on the road toward Grillenberg, and the green one leads left back to Aigen. So turn left onto a forest road (20 m before the green arrow on the tree—do not take the path directly next to the marker!), which leads uphill along the edge of the forest until it enters the woods after 100 m (green marker). Follow this forest road for the next 4 km along the slope of the Brunnleiten. The green trail marker leads off into the woods several times, but since all these side paths (“Alter Weg”) lead back to the forest road after a short distance, it’s best to stay on the forest road. Shortly before Aigen, you’ll reach the highest point (527 m) of the hike. You’ll now hike back to the village along meadows (green trail) and arrive at Kreithgasse. Follow this road downhill back to the starting point.

Take the Leobersdorf exit on the A2 Südautobahn, then follow the Hainfelder Bundesstraße B 18 to Berndorf; turn left onto the L 4020 toward Aigen and Hernstein. In Hernstein, continue straight on Aigner Straße toward Aigen; in Aigen, take Hernsteinerstraße until you reach approximately Gasthaus Penninger.
