Conservation – Preserving biodiversity, safeguarding the future
Nature parks aim to preserve valuable natural and cultural landscapes, in all their diversity and beauty, for the long term. Many of these landscapes have developed over centuries through low-impact land use – species-rich meadows, pastures, vineyards and alpine pastures. This historically evolved diversity of habitats and species forms the core asset of nature parks.
Today, these habitats are under increasing pressure – from unsustainable land-use practices and the consequences of climate change. Nature parks therefore make an important contribution to the conservation of biodiversity and to a functioning network of habitats through targeted nature and landscape conservation projects.
The Föhrenberge Nature Park is particularly committed to the management of species-rich grazed pastures with their dry and semi-dry grasslands, meadows, features within the vineyard landscape and species-rich, climate-resilient forests, as well as the protection of special sites such as ponds and former extraction sites like quarries.
