Experience the nature reserve – exploring a landscape teeming with life

The Föhrenberge Nature Park is the perfect place for hiking, walking, cycling, mountain biking and mindful nature observation. An extensive network of paths leads through pine and deciduous forests, across species-rich meadows and dry grasslands, and to special vantage points and cultural and historical excursion destinations.

Please stay on the marked paths when hiking or walking. Meadows, pastures and vineyards are valuable habitats, but they are also areas used for agriculture. In nature reserves, you must also stay on the marked paths.

The activities permitted in a particular location depend on the specific nature reserve, land ownership and local regulations. Please therefore pay attention to the signage on site.

Cycling and mountain biking are permitted in the Föhrenberge Nature Park on the designated and authorised routes. Please stay on these routes and observe any seasonal or night-time riding restrictions.

Cycling on unauthorised paths or unpaved areas can damage plants, soil and sensitive habitats, and disturb wildlife. Ride with foresight and at a controlled speed, and show consideration for walkers, forestry work and other uses of the countryside.

Yes, dogs are allowed in the Föhrenberge Nature Park. Please keep your dog on a lead throughout your visit.

This helps to protect wild animals and grazing livestock and ensures a pleasant experience for all visitors. Even a dog that responds well to commands can startle animals or pick up their scent before people are aware of it.

Please keep your dog on the paths and dispose of dog waste in a bag in the nearest bin provided for this purpose. Dog waste can pose a health risk to grazing animals and damage sensitive habitats.

When visiting the Föhrenberge Nature Park, you, as a visitor, have a responsibility to protect nature and wildlife, and to ensure the safety of all those seeking recreation. Please therefore note:

• Respect nature: Mountain biking on unpaved terrain damages vegetation and habitats, leads to erosion and causes stress to wildlife. Stay on authorised paths and observe seasonal and night-time riding restrictions. Do not climb near protected plant sites or bird nesting sites during the breeding season.
• Do not disturb wildlife: Keep your distance from wild animals, whether large or small – particularly whilst they are feeding, during the mating season, and in the presence of young animals or pregnant females. Approaching quietly and quickly causes stress.
• Keep dogs on a lead: Dogs can chase or injure wildlife. Keeping dogs on a lead protects animals and other visitors.
• Don’t leave rubbish behind: Rubbish endangers animals and people and spoils the experience of nature. Take your rubbish home with you.
• Dispose of dog poo in the bin: Dog poo is a health hazard for grazing animals, unwanted fertiliser in many habitats, and who wants to step in a ‘surprise’? Put it in a bag and dispose of it in the bin.
• Do not throw away cigarette ends: Cigarette ends contain large amounts of toxins and, if carelessly discarded, can quickly cause forest fires. Use a pocket ashtray or ensure they are completely extinguished before disposing of them in the nearest bin.
• In an emergency: In the event of an alpine emergency, call the alpine emergency number 140 or the European emergency number 112.

The Föhrenberge Nature Park and its partners invite you to take part in nature study excursions, guided walks, family activities, talks, workshops and joint landscape conservation projects.

Nature guides bring special species, habitats and ecological relationships to life. Depending on the activity, the focus may be on, for example, forests, meadows, dry grasslands, insects, water bodies, nocturnal animals or the history of the cultural landscape.
