Stay calm and secure the scene of the accident without putting yourself or others at risk. Administer first aid to the best of your ability and, in the event of an alpine emergency, contact the Alpine Emergency Service on 140. Alternatively, you can dial the European emergency number 112.
Provide as much detail as possible:
- What has happened?
- Where is the scene of the accident?
- How many people are involved?
- What injuries or hazards are present?
- How can we contact you if we need further information?
If possible, stay with the injured person and follow the instructions of the emergency services. A map or sat-nav app can help you determine your location or coordinates.
When out walking, ensure you have suitable kit, plenty of water, are aware of the weather conditions and that your mobile phone is fully charged. Let someone you trust know your planned route, especially if you are out on your own.
