Leobersdorf Lindenberg Loop
Hiking tour Starting from Leobersdorf, Swimming Pool
The market town of Leobersdorf is located at the end of the Triestingtal valley, largely in the Vienna Basin. Due to its convenient location, the municipality of Leobersdorf has developed from a pure wine village into an important business location in the Triestingtal. The hikes in the municipality are mostly flat and largely lead through agricultural areas, often between vineyards. One exception here is the Lindenberg, the first elevation north of the Triesting, which can be explored on a very beautiful hiking circuit with an ascent of 160 meters. The newly constructed cycle path towards Enzesfeld now also opens up the hiking areas of the market town of Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn as far as the Guglzipf in the Berndorf area. Hikes in Leobersdorf can be rounded off comfortably at one of the many wine taverns or inns. The new main square in the village is also worth a visit.

Although the name suggests otherwise, the Lindenberg is dominated by oak forests that are unique to the Triesting Valley. The influence of the Pannonian climate is already strongly felt here on this final foothill of the Alps. While hiking this loop clockwise, you’ll mostly see forest on your right, while vineyards, meadows, and farmland dominate on your left. Dry grasslands are also present.
Despite the low elevation—reaching a maximum of 369 meters above sea level—this loop around the Lindenberg offers surprisingly spectacular views. This offers, in succession, views of Guglzipf, Berndorf, Waxeneck, Hocheck, Hoher Lindkogel, Sooßer Lindkogel, Harzberg, Bad Vöslau, Anninger, the Leitha Mountains, Rosalia, Wechsel, and Hohe Wand.
From the starting point in Leobersdorf, you’ll have to put up with an unattractive stretch of the route along busy roads at the beginning and end, but after that, you’ll mostly be walking on very good hiking trails, forest roads, and, in some places, paved roads. This makes the hike suitable even for strollers.
Overall, this route offers a surprisingly varied hike with stunning views along the border between cultivated and forested landscapes, and you can also include a visit to the Hirtenberg Forest Nature Trail.
Standard Hiking Gear
From the parking lot at the swimming pool, head back onto the B18, follow it along the bike path toward the west, go under the highway, and cross it just before the Konrath garden center. Here, go up Lindenbergstraße, go under the highway on-ramp, and immediately take the paved farm road on the left (no-entry sign). Follow this road for two curves until, immediately after a four-way intersection and a sharp right-hand curve, a gravel field path branches off to the left; follow this winding path downhill until you reach the access road to the shooting range. Now follow this paved road to the right as it climbs through the vineyards to the shooting range. View toward Enzesfeld and as far as the Hohe Wand. Walk along the shooting range’s noise barrier until the road turns sharply left downhill toward Hirtenberg. Here, take the forest road that continues straight ahead along the barrier (sign: No Horseback Riding, No Bicycles). Surrounded by oak forests and on a slight incline, you’ll reach a clearing (timber storage area) and, immediately afterward, a forest road crossing your path. Turn left onto this road; it’s flat at first, then descends more steeply in places, passing the elevated water tank, until you reach another intersecting forest road. On this road, keep to the right and head uphill (to reach the forest nature trail, turn left and go downhill here); at a fork in the road, take the steeper path on the right, walk along a meadow, and just before a gate at the end of the meadow, turn left onto a forest trail. Shortly afterward, this trail joins the red-marked path from Hirtenberg coming in from the left.
Continue straight ahead on the forest road, over a hilltop and briefly downhill. Continuing straight ahead and following the trail markers (red, sometimes also pale blue/yellow), you’ll hike through oak and pine forests that gradually thin out until you reach the highest point of the hike at the edge of the forest, elevation 369 m (a dilapidated bench). From here, you’ll have your first beautiful view across the fields toward Berndorf, Guglzipf, Waxeneck, and Hocheck. Here, leave the red trail markers (which continue toward Großau) and turn sharply right onto a wide forest road; from here, follow the signs for the Guglzipf Mountain Bike Trail. For the next 1.7 km, stay on this forest road at the edge of the forest, following the mountain bike trail (partly marked with faint blue/yellow markings; at a fork, take the right path, which descends slightly). The trail is initially flat and then slopes gently downward along the ridge of the Lindenberg. Time and again, you’ll enjoy beautiful views across the vineyards of the Veitinger Mountains toward Gainfarn and Bad Vöslau, as well as of the Hohen Lindkogel, Sooßer Lindkogel, Harzberg, and Anninger. Leave the forest behind and continue straight ahead on the path heading east, passing under the high-voltage power line. At a fork in the trail, take the right path and, shortly after the 302-meter marker (a wayside shrine), turn right onto a dirt road. This path leads through the vineyards 380 m south to an asphalt road. On this road, keep left and head downhill, past the vineyard house, back to Lindenberggasse. Return to the swimming pool via the familiar path.
