This tour takes us along the Beethoven walking trail through the Vienna Woods to the wine village of Gumpoldskirchen and back to Baden via the Wasserleitungsweg through the vineyards.
We explore the Vienna Woods in the footsteps of nature lover Ludwig van Beethoven. On the walk we see a lot of the typical nature of the Vienna Woods. The wine taverns in the famous wine village of Gumpoldskirchen are ideal for an enjoyable
rest. On the Wasserleitungsweg, we experience the gentle wine landscape of the Thermenregion and towards the end of the tour there are magnificent views of the spa town of Baden.
Fun facts:
From Rudolfshof, we follow the green trail markers to Pfaffstätten Einöde. Just before the settlement, we turn sharply to the right and cross the road. We now follow the red trail markers (40) the entire way—a short, steep climb followed by a relatively flat stretch through the Vienna Woods to the Hubertushütte. There, we keep slightly to the right and hike downhill along the green-marked trail to Gumpoldskirchen. The wine taverns in this famous wine-growing village are a great place to take a break. We now walk past St. Michael’s Church on the left, continue along the Wine Education Trail, follow the red trail markers downhill to the left, and thus reach the Water Pipeline Hiking Trail. We hike back toward Baden along this trail through the wine-growing landscapes of the Thermenregion. There, the trail joins Schiestlstraße, which leads us on to Welzergasse. We cross this street and walk up the nature trail into the Baden Spa Park. We enjoy the wonderful view of the town of Baden from the Beethoven Temple. From here, we head back uphill, following the yellow trail markers, back to the Rudolfshof.
Enjoy the wine culture of the Thermenregion Vienna Woods either at the wine taverns in Baden and Gumpoldskirchen or, in the fall, at one of the wine stands along the Wasserleitungsweg. On the first two weekends in September, the Thermenregion Vienna Woods Gourmet Mile takes place along the Wasserleitungsweg.
